Masters Historic Festival, Brands Hatch

A couple of days photography at an entertaining historic motorsport festival at the classic Kent track.

I’d last photographed there in 2011 and the safety fencing and barriers had got more intrusive to the spectator experience, but you could still find unfettered, close views on the inside of several corners, plus there were a few ‘photography windows’ in the fencing.

The main attraction was racing among historic F1 cars from the 3 litre era - running between 1966 and 1985 - although a range of other eras and classes were also racing, including F1 cars from the late 1950s and 1960s, F2 and F3, endurance sports cars and a range of historic saloon and sports cars with ‘gentleman’ drivers.

1993 Footwork Arrows FA14.

There was an excellent pit walk before racing started on the Sunday morning, when access was largely unconstrained as long as one was sensible.

Undressed Saudia Williams.

1960 Scarab Offenhauser.

Gulf Porsche decoration.

His work looks to be getting on top of him.

Shaving tyres.

Far be it from me to comment on the work ethic of French tyre engineers…

Wishbones and suspension rods.

The wonders of gaffer tape.

Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren F1, was racing endurance cars and gave an interview and signed autographs.
