A walk from Finchingfield

A short walk today in north Essex with friends, beginning and ending in the lovely (but crowded) village of Finchingfield.

The Fox, Finchingfield (getting this car-free image took a long wait!).

Finchingfield visitors were fortunately much more interested in parking their SUVs and finding a table at the pub than interrupting our visit to the village’s wonderful church and medieval Guildhall.

St John the Baptist, Finchingfield has a Norman tower.

Inside the church, showing the fine, ancient, faded glass.

Equestrian thatch.

On the walk we took in the adjacent village of Great Bardfield, smaller but every bit as historic and beautiful as Finchingfield.

It was mercifully much freer of the bank holiday weekend vehicles disfiguring Finchingfield’s picturesque green, and the Vine pub car park was greatly enhanced by an original Only Fools and Horses Reliant 3-wheeler van, one of several used in the filming of the series.

Original Trotters Independent Traders Reliant.
