Bari, Puglia, September 2022

The last time I was in Bari was at the end of a 6-week tour of Italy in 1975 with a university friend. Our sole reason for being there was to catch the train back to Calais, and we stayed in the modern city near the station and completely missed the lovely, walled historical centre and harbour.

Fortunately, when Kate and I also visited on the last day of our trip, we’d allowed plenty of time to enjoy its colourful and sometimes quirky details, such as this Car-melite foundation…

A picture postcard view of the harbour.

Holy washing.

Cathedral statuary.
