Pasque flowers, Therfield Heath

Pasque flowers (Pulsatilla vulgaris) grow in their natural habitat on the chalky slopes of Therfield Heath just west of Royston.

It's a fragile environment and they are found in few places now in the wild, but with care to avoid squashing any of these delicate beauties I crawled around in lovely evening light in mid-April and bagged some nice specimens hand-held with the Olympus 60mm f2.8 macro lens. Here's the first batch - there may be more to come.
